Privacy is the first design requirement: ShutterActuations does not need to receive, store, or retain your photograph or its extracted metadata.

Privacy at a glance

What happens when you select a file

Your browser gives this page temporary, local access to the file you choose. The metadata readers inspect that file inside your browser. Selecting a file is not an upload.

Photo data we do not receive

• Photos, previews, filenames, or extracted metadata
• GPS coordinates, camera serial numbers, or author information
• User accounts, profiles, or saved analysis history
• Saved searches, analysis history, or behavioral profiles

Local processing modules

The fast metadata reader loads with the interface. If you choose Check shutter count, your browser downloads an additional WebAssembly processing module from this website. Only the reader software is downloaded; your photograph and extracted metadata are not attached to that request. The module may remain in your browser’s cache to make later checks faster.

Website delivery and analytics requests

Like every website, the hosting network receives technical request information needed to deliver pages and protect the service, such as an IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, timestamp, and security signals. Infrastructure providers may retain limited operational or security logs under their own policies.

ShutterActuations currently uses Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregate website usage and performance measurement. Cloudflare may load its analytics script and receive ordinary page and performance telemetry. This traffic is separate from the checker: the selected photo, filename, and extracted camera or shutter metadata are not attached to analytics requests.

Sensitive fields

Location, ownership, authorship, copyright, and device-serial fields are visibly identified. Bulk copy and JSON export exclude them by default unless you change that setting.

Data retention

The current analysis lives in the open page’s memory. Resetting the checker, closing the tab or navigating away releases the selected file. If you choose to carry evidence into a camera inspection report, a limited summary is placed in this tab’s session storage and removed when the report reads it. That transfer excludes filenames, serial numbers, location and owner/copyright fields. If navigation fails, the pending summary remains until the report reads it or the tab closes. No photo bytes are stored. Ordinary browser caching may retain website code and the optional reader module.

Photography tools and saved inspection drafts

The homepage remembers your Play/Pause choice in this browser’s local storage. This contains only the playback preference, not your photos or viewing history. Clear this site’s browser storage to remove it.

The print-size calculator and JPEG privacy cleaner also process selected files locally. Crops, cleaned photos, timelapse plans and inspection reports are downloaded directly to your device. They are not sent to our servers.

The used-camera checklist and camera inspection report share a draft. Either tool saves it in this browser’s local storage only when you press Save draft on this device or Save checklist draft on this device. A saved draft includes your checklist results, notes, model and any serial reference you entered. Use Delete saved draft on that page to remove it, or clear this site’s browser storage. Closing the tab does not erase a saved draft. Reports omit the dedicated serial-reference field unless you choose to include it; text you type into notes remains in the report.
